"Higher the feet from the ground"
Dates: September-October, 2021
Location: Loft space "Podzemka", Novosibirsk, Russia
Curator(s): Kristina Shabanova, Alexandra Anikeeva
Curator from the site: Anton Kshnyasev

This exhibition creates a space where falsehood is impossible, a territory where an open heart perceives beyond mere exhibits. It exists as nothing but air, yet this air is the densest one can encounter in the city: an atmosphere of freedom, imbued with despair, yet pierced by surging hope, mutual aid, and love. What remains when everything is over is not destroyed, but rendered invisible. It can only be felt and seen with the heart.

Conceived in spring 2021, the exhibition serves as a reflection on the turbulent period of 2020-2021, marked by a new era of global mass mortality. It highlights how art became a truthful, understandable, and relevant medium for artists to express their experiences and thoughts during this challenging and unpredictable time. Featuring multimedia works, monumental panels, installations, performance, and graphics – many created specifically for the theme "Higher than the feet from the ground" and the loft space "Podzemka" – the project aims to de-taboo and de-romanticize the theme of death. It offers a candid dialogue about what awaits each individual and what unfolds every second in our world, presenting very personal perspectives on mortality.
